Propolis (Bee Pollen)                        

            This substance is not a botanical medicine.  It is often used by nutritionists and herbalists to treat allergies, viral and bacterial infections, inflammation of the respiratory tract and urinary tract.  It's properties include antiseptic, anti-oxidant, vulnerary and, according to Sharol Tilgner, hepatoprotective. 

The active constituents include resin, vitamins and minerals, enzymes. 

Contraindications:  It is good to know where the propolis came from, allergic reactions can occur in highly sensitive individuals (ie:  sage allergies, sage pollen).  Sharol Tilgner, ND states it is contraindicated in pregnancy.

Pharmacy:

            Tincture (1:3, 1:5):            10-40 drops QD to QID, swish and swallow

            Powder or Granules:            ½ tsp. QD to TID
