Part Used:  Oil from leaves and twigs

Active Constituents:

Alpha-terpineol, cineole, sesquiterpenes

Medicinal Actions:

Anti-parasitic, anti-bacterial, carminative, diaphoretic, stimulant

Medicinal Uses:

1)Melaleuca has some effect as an anodyne to reduce neuralgia of the neuralgia type.

2)It has been used to alleviate headache, toothache, mastitis or mastodynia, pleurodynia.

3)It has also been used similarly to Wintergreen for joint and muscle inflammation.

4)Topically, it has anti-parasitic action.

5)It is also diaphoretic, carminative and stimulates the release of HCl to support digestion. 

6)It is also used to treat sinusitis, pharyngitis and bronchitis.  It can be mixed with other oils to treat ear infections. 

Contraindications:  None known

Pharmacy:

            Tincture :  2-10 gtt BIT-QID

            Oil:  2-10 gtt

            Steam Inhalation:  4-10 gtt in bowl of hot water, cover and breathe vapors X 15-20 min PRN
